IWC Ingenieur Automatic 40 “Brad Pitt” — Where Motorsport, Movie Magic, and Heritage Converge
The IWC Ingenieur Automatic 40 “Brad Pitt” (Ref. IW328908) is more than just a celebrity-endorsed timepiece. Born out of F1 The Movie, in which Brad Pitt’s character Sonny Hayes wears a customized vintage Ingenieur SL, this new release brings that cinematic inspiration to the wrists of collectors worldwide. Limited to just 1,000 pieces, the watch strikes a balance between film culture, motorsport spirit, and IWC’s deep horological heritage.
At first glance, the watch impresses with its proportions. Measuring 40 mm in stainless steel, just 10.7 mm thick, and with a comfortable lug-to-lug of 45.7 mm, it wears sleek yet robust. The bezel, secured by five functional screws, recalls Gérald Genta’s iconic Ingenieur SL from the 1970s, while the integrated H-link bracelet blends satin brushing and polished bevels for a modern sports-luxury aesthetic. It is water-resistant to 100 meters, making it versatile for daily wear.
The dial is where this edition comes alive. A metallic green “grid” pattern creates depth and texture, a nod to Hayes’s racing colors in the film. Gold-plated hands and markers, filled with Super-LumiNova, elevate the design with warmth and legibility, while a color-matched green date window keeps the symmetry intact. Bold yet refined, it offers a fresh alternative to the usual blue or black sports-watch palette.
Inside beats the in-house calibre 32111, an automatic movement with an impressive five-day (120-hour) power reserve. Staying true to the Ingenieur’s original tool-watch DNA, the movement is housed within a soft-iron inner case for antimagnetic protection. The watch features a solid caseback to preserve that shielding, a practical choice that underscores its utilitarian roots.
On the wrist, the “Brad Pitt” Ingenieur strikes a rare balance between sporty presence and refined elegance. Its slim profile ensures it slides under a cuff, while the integrated bracelet provides comfort and modern sophistication. The green-and-gold color scheme sets it apart from its competitors, and the cinematic backstory makes it a natural conversation piece for both watch enthusiasts and film buffs alike.
Limited to 1,000 units and priced in line with IWC’s other Ingenieur Automatic 40 models, the Brad Pitt edition sits firmly within the competitive luxury sports-watch arena. While some may prefer a more versatile dial color or an exhibition caseback, its unique identity, heritage-driven design, and movie tie-in make it highly collectible.
