Grand Seiko Tentagraph Tokyo Lion SLGC009 – The best release from Grand Seiko in 2025
The Grand Seiko Tentagraph Tokyo Lion SLGC009 is the latest roar from Japan’s premier luxury watchmaker, unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2025. Combining the brand’s boldest sport design with its first mechanical Tentagraph movement, this high-beat chronograph blends technical innovation, rugged materials, and symbolic artistry into one commanding package.
The Tokyo Lion design is all about power and precision. Sharp, claw-like lugs and a faceted bezel evoke the strength of a lion’s paw. For the first time in the Grand Seiko Sport Collection, the watch is made from Brilliant Hard Titanium—twice as hard as stainless steel, brighter in finish, and highly resistant to scratches and corrosion.
With a 43 mm case diameter and 15.6 mm thickness, the watch makes a statement, but its titanium construction keeps it remarkably lightweight for its size. The SLGC009’s dial is inspired by a lion’s mane “flowing in the wind.” Three-dimensional Black chronograph counters provide sharp contrast, while a taupe running seconds subdial adds subtle balance.
Diamond-cut indices filled with Lumibrite ensure the watch remains highly legible in any lighting conditions.
Powering the Grand Seiko Tentagraph Tokyo Lion is the Caliber 9SC5 with a precision of -3 to +5 seconds per day. This high-beat 10 Hz (36,000 vph) automatic chronograph movement also offers:
The name “Tentagraph” reflects its specs: TEN-beat, Three-day reserve, Automatic, GRAPH for chronograph.
Despite its size, the watch is designed for comfort. A curved caseback and lightweight Brilliant Hard Titanium make it easy to wear daily. The new brown rubber strap — 2.7 times stronger than previous Grand Seiko silicone straps—features a lion’s paw motif and perfectly matches the dial’s tone. With 200 meters of water resistance, the SLGC009 is as functional as it is bold. With its striking Tokyo Lion case, brilliant titanium construction, and high-performance Tentagraph movement, this Grand Seiko is one of the most exciting chronographs of 2025.
For collectors and enthusiasts seeking a luxury sports chronograph that pairs bold design with cutting-edge mechanics, the SLGC009 stands tall as the king of its domain.
