Retro Precision Reimagined: The New Glashütte Original Seventies “X” Chronograph in Panda Style
A striking blend of vintage character and modern refinement, this new Glashütte Original Seventies “X” Chronograph makes a bold statement. With its unmistakable 1970s-inspired cushion case and a refreshed panda-style dial, this latest release from the German manufacture is a celebration of heritage, design innovation, and chronometric excellence. This is an exclusive North American edition is only available in the USA, Canada and the Caribbean with only 100 pieces available.
At first glance, the case is unmistakably Seventies — a rounded square silhouette sculpted from stainless steel, measuring a versatile 40 mm x 40 mm with a thickness of 14.2 mm. But what truly elevates this model is the new panda-style dial configuration: white matte lacquered background contrasted by deep black sub-dials. This great looking dial also features applied white indices and the sub-dials are neatly arranged: running seconds at 9 o’clock, 30-minute totalizer at 3, and 12 hour arced window right bellow the 12 O’clock position. The power reserve indicator cleverly integrates into the small seconds display, offering both symmetry and functionality.
And you can’t forget about the Glashütte Original’s signature panorama date at 6.
This high-contrast aesthetic enhances legibility while evoking classic racing chronographs of the 1960s and 70s, earning it the “panda” moniker among collectors and enthusiasts.
The “X” designation marks this edition as part of a celebratory lineup — the tenth anniversary of the Seventies Chronograph series. While the case design remains loyal to its roots, the new dial adds a dynamic edge, making it one of the sportiest and most collectible models in the family to date.
Beneath the dial beats the Calibre 37-02, an in-house flyback chronograph movement designed for reliability and robustness. The column-wheel mechanism ensures precise start, stop, and reset operations, while the 70-hour power reserve provides ample autonomy for daily wear.
Turn the watch over, and the sapphire crystal caseback reveals a beautifully finished movement — striped plates, bevelled edges, and a skeletonized rotor with a double-G logo. It’s a reminder that this is not just a retro-style chronograph — it’s a modern German masterpiece.
This Seventies Chronograph Panda “X” is fitted with a stainless steel bracelet and comes with an additional black rubber strap.
The Glashütte Original Seventies “X” Chronograph Panda is more than a tribute to an era — it’s a testament to the brand’s ability to evolve without abandoning its identity. With just the right mix of nostalgia and modernity, it’s poised to become a future classic.
