The concept of a “souscription” (French for “subscription”) watch dates back to the 1790s, when Abraham-Louis Breguet introduced a novel business model: customers could reserve a watch by paying a partial amount upfront. These watches were designed with a large central hour hand and a simple dial, focusing on clarity and precision.
This method not only helped finance production but also democratized access to fine watchmaking — long before mass production.
Design: Classical with Contemporary Finesse
The 2025 Classique Souscription stays true to its minimalist origins:
• Dial: A beautifully restrained Grand Feu enamel dial, featuring Breguet’s iconic Arabic numerals and a single blued steel hand curved by hand to match the dial’s convex profile.
• Case: 40mm and features Breguet’s new proprietary gold alloy (Breguet Gold). This new alloy has a warmer tone that is very similar to the pocket watches of the 18th-century. This material is a blend of gold, silver, palladium and copper.
Every element speaks to the timeless purity of Breguet’s design language — nothing unnecessary, everything refined.
Movement: Hand-Wound Precision
This timepiece is powered by caliber VS00. A new hand-wound in-house caliber crafted from gilded brass and features a brand new guilloche pattern. The VS00 works at 3 hertz and has a power reserve of 4 days using only a single mainspring barrel.
