Grand Seiko Finally got it right! The New Spring Drive U.F.A. Ushio 300 Diver SLGB025
The Grand Seiko Spring Drive U.F.A. Ushio 300 Diver SLGB025 is a new a compact, titanium-built Evolution 9 diver timepiece that may finally bridge the gap between hardcore tool watch functionality and Grand Seiko’s signature refinement.
This new collection could potentially become one of the brand’s most important modern sports watches.
For years, one of the biggest criticisms aimed at Grand Seiko’s dive lineup was size. While beautifully finished, many references pushed beyond 43mm and wore noticeably large on the wrist.
The SLGB025 changes that! At 40.8mm wide and just 12.9mm thick, the Ushio 300 becomes the smallest modern Grand Seiko diver yet.
The proportions matter because this watch feels less like a niche professional instrument and more like a true daily luxury diver. It still delivers 300 meters of water resistance, a ceramic bezel insert, screw-down crown, and ISO-style capability, but now in a package that won’t dominate the wrist.
Under the hood the SLGB025 is using the new Caliber 9RB1 Spring Drive movement — an evolution of the groundbreaking 9RB2 introduced in 2025. The “U.F.A.” designation stands for Ultra Fine Accuracy, and Grand Seiko claims annual accuracy of ±20 seconds per year. Not per month. Per year. That places it among the most accurate mainspring-powered wristwatches ever made.
This new caliber has an improved architecture designed specifically for sports watches and diving applications and power reserve is rated at 72 hours.
This power house is incased in a titanium case and paired with a bracelet that features an updated micro adjustment system for better improve comfort.
The surface has a wave-like texture that shifts dramatically depending on lighting conditions, moving between deep emerald and softer seafoam tones. It’s unmistakably Grand Seiko: nature-inspired without becoming overly literal.
The Grand Seiko Spring Drive U.F.A. Ushio 300 Diver SLGB025 may be the most complete modern Grand Seiko diver to date. It takes the brand’s strongest traits — dial craftsmanship, Spring Drive technology, Zaratsu finishing, and nature-inspired design — and finally packages them into proportions enthusiasts have been requesting for years.
