Introducing the Omega Speedmaster “Grey Side of the Moon” (Ref. 310.92.44.50.06.002)
When it comes to Omega Speedmasters, few evoke as much lunar mystique as the Grey Side of the Moon. With tis new model, Omega delivers a beautifully balanced fusion of heritage, innovation, and design subtlety.
This Speedmaster features a 44.25 mm case crafted from polished and brushed gray ceramic, giving it a contemporary yet premium feel. The grey tones shift with light, creating a dynamic visual effect that plays off the ceramic’s texture.
Surrounding the dial is a tachymeter bezel, also in grey ceramic, with a laser-engraved scale filled with white Super-LumiNova — a contrast that ensures legibility even in low light.
Peering through the sapphire crystal, you’ll find a skeletonized dial that’s been thoughtfully rendered in shades of grey. The dial design echoes lunar topography, with laser-ablated details that suggest the moon’s cratered surface. Hour markers and hands are greyed and filled with white Super-LumiNova for readability.
At the heart of the watch is the specially decorated Calibre 3869 , a hand-wound chronograph movement that’s Master Chronometer certified. This movement includes a Co-Axial escapement, a silicon hairspring, and resists magnetic fields.
Through the skeletonized bridges, you can see the main plate’s laser-ablated lunar motif — a subtle but meaningful nod to the moon’s surface. The movement runs at 3 Hz (21,600 vph) and offers a 50-hour power reserve.
Flip it over, and the exhibition caseback gives you a clear view of the movement and the lunar surface engraving. Around the back, you’ll also find the engraved quotation: “THE MOON IS ESSENTIALLY GREY,” attributed to Apollo 8 astronaut Jim Lovell.
The watch is paired with a grey rubber strap, which has a moon-surface pattern underside — again reinforcing the lunar inspiration. The clasp is a ceramic foldover style with ceramised titanium frame-spring folders, combining durability, lightness, and design cohesion.
In terms of water resistance, the watch is rated to 50 meters (5 bar) — enough for everyday wear, though not really meant for diving.
