A Lange & Sohne Saxonia Moonphase Automatic
The Saxonia is an elegant dressed watch with a timeless design from one of the most prestigious watch manufacturer in Germany. This is the A.Lange & Sohne Saxonia Moonpahse, reference number 384.032.
A. Lange & Sohne has a very rich heritage in watch manufacturing and it was one of the first watchmakers to establish their shop in Glashutte, Germany in 1845. The brand was known for their handcrafted precision and superb craftsmanship.
During War World 2, the shop was destroyed and the brand disappear from the market. Ut wasn’t until 1990 that the name was re-register and by 1994 the company launched their new line. This included the A. Lange 1 and the Saxonia which maintains many of the classic elements of the brand while continuing innovating and perfecting the movements.
This remarkable Saxonia Moonphase was first introduced in 2016 and is available in 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. The case measures 40 mm in diameter but 46.8 mm when measure from lug to lug. This Saxonia is 9.8 mm in thickness which is a fairly thin size case that carries a movement that has moonphase and large date display.
The case comes paired with a brown alligator leather strap with large rectangular scale pattern. This luxurious strap has a semigloss finish with monotone stitching and comes with a 18k rose gold pin buckle.
The silver dial is made of solid silver with applied rose gold hour markers and polished rose gold hands. But the main feature is the running seconds sub-dial with moon phase aperture at the six O’clock position. This moonphase is so accurate that it only deviates from the actual moon position by only one day in 122.6 years!
The solid gold lunar disc has a deep blue color with 852 stars and the disc is always in motion since it is connected to the hour wheel.
The dial also have a big date window below the 12 O’clock position which can be easily adjusted with the pusher by the 10 O’clock position.
Under the hood, is the elegant in house movement, caliber L086.5. This automatic movement has 325 parts, adjusted in 5 positions and works at 3 hertz using 40 jewels. The handcrafted movement is built on a solid 3/4 silver plate which features Glashutte strips across the brides, engine turning on the base plate and thermally blued screws. This automatic movement has a classic rotor design made of solid gold with a platinum mass which helps keep this movement in motion for up to 72 hours. The balance cock, has beautiful flower engravings all done by hand!
Other features of this movement are hacking seconds and 30 meters of water resistant.
