The Vintage collection has been evolving over the years while maintaining the brand’s original ideas. In 2017, the third generation of the series was born: BR V1-92 models in the retro classic style, BR V2-92 and BR V2-94 models with more modern features. This year the catalog has been replenished with vintage novelties, men’s sports watch BR V3-94 Black Steel from Bell & Ross.

Modifications in Design

The Vintage collection features a classic round watch, as opposed to the typical ‘circle in a square’ design of the iconic BR01 and BR03 models. A more traditional retro-style shape has a comfortable size and a solid dial framed inside a tall domed glass. The watch has ceased to be an instrument, but has not moved to the jewelry area. The brand has found a sweet spot where the traditional steel case dictates respect, and the mechanics meet the high standards of the industry.

The new models, in polished steel with satin-finish, have several modifications — the 41 mm size was increased to 43 mm, the standard edges and the built-in module have been upgraded, the fixed bezel turned into a bi-directional panel. The new Black Steel concept now features a 43 mm case supported by the more massive built-in internal lugs. This design was used exclusively for limited edition Renault F1s, but is now becoming a permanent feature of the sought-after model.

The classic round case and dial come in matte black finish displaying high-contrast white numerals and markers. All elements, including skeleton arrows and indexes are luminous. This touch gives the monochrome sportswear a stylish look. The date is displayed in a round window at the 4:30 position.

Mechanics of Black Steel

New models are equipped with the automatic modular chronograph, Caliber BR-CAL.301. Movement is based on the iconic ETA 2894-2 design. The watch operates at 4 Hz and has a power reserve of up to 42 hours. The design and mechanical elements are perfectly visible through the transparent back cover.

This evolution has affected not only the design, but also its functionality. In addition to changes in its shape and size, the 60-minute bezel on the anodized black aluminum insert has been updated as well — now the bezel moves in two directions. There is also a tachymeter scale on the inner flange.

The dial layout has evolved from a bi-compax to a more familiar display with three apertures at the 3-6-9 position. Chronograph pushers operate from a simple push instead of impractical screw buttons. The main functions are hours, minutes, stopwatch and date at 3 o’clock position. The chronograph has a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and a central chronograph watch. These models are much better adapted to active lifestyle and extreme recreation.

BR V3-94 is available in various configurations. BRV394-RS20 / SCA version comes with a black calfskin strap. BRV394-RS20 / SST and BRV394-BL-ST / SST models come in a satin-finish steel bracelet.
