Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope Chronograph
One of the biggest releases of Omega in the past couple of years, is the introduction of the Speedmaster Chronoscope. A timepiece that pays tribute to the chronograph wristwatches of the 1940s.
This model features a brand-new dial design inspired by the vintage Omega Snail Chronograph from the 1940s. This new Speedmaster has an updated case size of 43 mm in diameter and a lug-to-lug measurement of 48 mm. It sits perfectly between the Moonwatch and the Dark Side of the Moon models, yet it’s slightly thinner at 12.8 mm, thanks to the innovative manual caliber fitted into this exceptional piece.
There are a few configurations available in the Omega catalog but one of the most interesting, is the Bronze Gold Chronoscope which closely resembles the original vintage Chronoscope. The case is crafted from Omega’s exclusive Bronze-Gold and features an oxidized bronze dial and brown calfskin leather strap.
This alloy is a combination of bronze, gold, palladium and silver. The result, is a bronze that will age a lot slower and it will retain its beautiful patina over a longer period of time. Additionally, the material is also safe for direct contact with the skin.
At its core, the Chronoscope houses the Caliber 9908, a Co-Axial Master Chronometer Certified movement operating at 4 hertz using a silicon balance spring and 44 jewels. This manual movement employs two barrels, providing an impressive 60-hour power reserve. In addition, it features a time zone function, hacking seconds, and a chronograph function with column wheel and vertical clutch.
The dial has 2 silvery subdials. The one by the 9 O’clock position displays running seconds, while the one at 3 o’clock features a twin-register layout for both the 60-minute and a 12-hour recorder of the chronograph.
At the center of the dial there are 3 timing scales that overlap the subdials. You have a telemeter scale which is use to gauge distance, pulsometer scale which is use to measure heartbeats per minute and then a tachymeter scale which is use to measure the speed of an object.
